Rating: 3.3/5
Synopsis: Joy is used to hearing Whispers. She’s used to walking down the street and instantly knowing people’s deepest, darkest desires. She uses this talent for good, to make people happy and give them what they want. But for her older sister, Jessica, the family gift is a curse, and she uses it to make people’s lives—especially Joy’s—miserable. Still, when Joy Hears a frightening whisper from Jessica's own mind, she knows she has to save her sister, even if it means deserting her friends, stealing a car and running away with a boy she barely knows—a boy who may have a dark secret of his own

Review: I was really looking forward to this book, and what I read was definitely not what I expected. It was good, don't get me wrong, but it lacked the special pizzazz to keep my interest in the beginning (more on that later). It was certainly not your average YA book considering its plot and characters. The writing was superb, but its characters lacked the depth I hoped for.
I had a hard time getting into it. Even after I put it down, I didn't have the irresistable urge to pick it back up. The idea of Joy being able to read people's minds is amazing, but it annoyed me that she was so naiive, wanting to meet everyone's needs and all that. The one thing I liked about this book, though, was the interaction of the family throughout the book. I was expecting a little more romance, but even if it is just subtle, it was worth reading.
All in all, I think the book is good, just don't spend too much time dwelling. Am I looking forward to book 2? Of course! The book might have been slow, but I'm interested to see what'll happen next.
What I thought of...
The Beginning: It was interesting, but didn't really pull me in.
The Middle: If the plot didn't pick up as it did (dragged out for 100 pages with no action), I would have fjlskfjsjdf. But thankfully it did, and for the better! :)
The End: Loved the sisters interaction, and the ending. It was...enough :)
FTC: Got this ARC from Around the World Tours

I had the same feelings. It was dull compared to what I thought it would be. And I never really got into it until the very end.
I'm sorry that it didn't have that pizzazz that would've made it a better read for you. I'm getting the book soon so thanks for the heads up!
I love sister interaction :) thanks for the review
Great review...I'm glad to know your honesty because the hype around this one is intense!
Looks interesting...I'll keep a lookout, but I don't think it'll be prioritized any time soon.
Hmmm, I'd been looking forward to this one but now, not quite so much. I really appreciate your honesty and may or may not still read this one.

This is a really helpful review. I've been excited about this premise but it's good to get more of an insight of what it's actually like to read. I'll still look out for this one.
